Bio

Anita is currently a second-year dental student at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Born and raised in Mashhad, Iran, Anita moved to the US after graduating high school. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Loyola University Chicago in 2021. Anita completed neuroscience research at Dr. Daniel Cavanaugh’s lab. Her research focused on understanding the neuronal circuitry and molecular mechanisms through which the circadian system communicates with the brain and peripheral tissues to modulate behavioral and physiological processes. Using the powerful model organism of the fruit fly, she investigated the consequences of long-term circadian disruption on feeding behavior. Her commitment to diversity and inclusion led her to found the Iranian Association of Loyola, a student-led organization with the goal of celebrating and spreading awareness of Iranian culture. As an undergraduate, Anita served as a student senator at the University Senate, the Chair of External Communications at Loyola’s pre-dental club, and an editorial staff member of Diminuendo Arts Magazine. She was recognized for her leadership and community service with the Presidential Magis Award, and was the recipient of multiple research fellowships, including the Mulcahy and WISER research fellowships at Loyola University Chicago. Currently, Anita serves as the co-president of the HMS/HSDM Iranian Society, the community involvement chair of Harvard ASDA, and an E-board member of the Harvard Dental Innovation Society. In her free time, Anita enjoys hiking, playing tennis, photography, and spending quality time with her family and friends.
